3M gives all employees 15-20 percent free time to work on their own projects. If it’s a success, the project can be spun off into a new business and the employee who originated it is given an equity share.
It took awhile to see Thursday like it was Friday. What we realized is that Thursdays became very busy, because we had to finish everything for the week that hadn’t been done yet.
We would look at our to-do lists and realize there was still a huge amount of things to be done. Yikes. So the result is that Thursdays can be a bit hectic. Friday would’ve been hectic anyway though, so why not get the work done one day early?
Ich bin immer wieder fasziniert, wie sehr wir unsere Umstände als gegeben ansehen und jeden argwöhnisch betrachten, der diese hinterfragt. 37signals und Carson Systems sind kleine Unternehmen, die bislang erfolgreich auf die 4-Tage-Woche umgestellt haben und damit mehr als zufrieden sind.
In meinem Leben ist die Unzufriedenheit ein starker Motor. Unzufriedenheit fördert die Weiterentwicklung, und das Hinterfragen von Gewohnheiten. Wäre ich mit allem immer und ständig zufrieden, würde ich stehen bleiben.

I have come to believe that much of what my colleagues and I taught has caused real suffering, suppressed wealth creation, destabilized the world economy, and accelerated the demise of the 20th century capitalism in which the U.S. played the leading role. We weren't stupid and we weren't evil. Nevertheless we managed to produce a generation of managers and business professionals that is deeply mistrusted and despised by a majority of people in our society and around the world. This is a terrible failure. -
